Happy Fall Everyone
The busiest time of the year is in full swing right now. It’s harvest time! We started chopping our corn fields yesterday and we finished up this afternoon. It is grand central station at the dairy right now. On top of the normal hustle and bustle there are extra tractors, trucks and choppers going everywhere. This has been a natural occurrence in my life for as long as I can remember, but I don’t have any pictures of the harvest. So last night I got my camera out, braved the
mosquitoes, and took a few pictures. It still amazes me how the chopper gobbles up all those rows of corn and spits it in the truck so fast! Tomorrow is going to be a busy day of covering the pile with the white plastic and tires. Next week there will be more trucks and an excavator coming in to help spread the manure out on the fields to fertilize. In the meantime Felipe is out on the tractor disking the ground and getting it ready for the oats that go in next. While all this is going on I’m still out there feeding the new calves, treating cows and my usual day to day jobs as well as helping out with the harvesting. It’s a busy time, but I think it is one of the most exciting times of the year on the dairy.
