Hello to all

Hello to all,

I hope that each of you had a nice Thanksgiving and wish each of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Last night, I submitted my application to UC Davis. I wrote one of my personal statements on my position as the dairy princess. I would like to share it with you. The prompt was, "Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud, and how does it relate to the person that you are?"

Here is what I wrote:

Recently, I attended the CMAB Annual Meeting in Fortuna. In attendance with me were my alternates Rachel and Brooke.  Along with good cheese sampling and a delicious dinner, we each had a chance to introduce ourselves to the dairymen and the individuals in the audience. Also, we viewed an optimistic video analyzing the success of the CMAB so far and its great plans for the future. I am so proud to be part of the inspiring task that the board is undertaking. They have the most amazing advertising and marketing program.

In San Joaquin County...

In San Joaquin County we have three Ag Venture Days which are like a farm day where people from many different agriculture industries come to one place to teach 3rd graders about agriculture. I recently attended the Ag Venture in Manteca and presented to 7 groups with each presentation lasting about 10 minutes. In my presentation I covered milk's journey, beginning with the cow all the way to the consumer's table. I had pictures of cows eating, drinking, being milked and sleeping in their beds.

Although events for dairy princesses have slowed down, we are still keeping busy here in District 1.

Although events for dairy princesses have slowed down, we are still keeping busy here in District 1. Just last night, Rachel Phillips and I attended a local fundraiser and served ice cream for Humboldt Creamery. It was quite an experience because this event was not for dairymen. Only a handful of people knew who we were and what we did. It was a perfect event for us to really step out of our comfort zone and convey our purpose to the non-agricultural part of our area.

Wow! It's been an amazing summer with the Dairy Princess Program

The three District 1 Dairy Princesses attended the Humboldt County Fair in mid-August. Although we were torn between showing our animals and the Humboldt Creamery ice cream booth, each of us was on our toes the entire time.  Overall, it was a successful and fun experience.
