Well I promised a recap on our rally out at the Cal Poly Dairy and I am here with the news.

Well I promised a recap on our rally out at the Cal Poly Dairy and I am here with the news. To begin, I imagine many of you are not aware of the struggles the Cal Poly Dairy is currently facing. It is the basic plight of virtually every dairy farmer in the state; Cal Poly's costs are too high compared to its revenue. The school's administration proposed a plan to downsize the dairy to a more manageable number of cows - a number that would not exceed the processing capacity of the Cal Poly Creamery, and therefore lower costs.

Life never gets boring as a California Dairy Princess

Life never gets boring as a California Dairy Princess. I recently went home for the Harvest Fair in my county to help out with sundae eating contests and to talk to the public about my position. But since starting school at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (go Mustangs!) I have found myself explaining a lot more of what it means to be a Dairy Princess. My dorm here at school is part of the connections program, meaning it mixes all majors together so students can get to know people with different interests.

Dairy Princess for District 3

My name is Hope Hanselman and I am the Dairy Princess for District 3 (Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Lake, Mendocino, and Solano counties). And, in-between graduating high school, starting college, working at my town's creamery, moving out to my employer's dairy, and still being Dairy Princess my summer has been jam-packed. But thankfully, attending events as Dairy Princess is much more a privilege than a responsibility.
